- Luongo says his pregnant wife is >>> All Star Game. He will also miss the home game against Dallas Stars after the All Star break and would meet with the team in Florida for their game against Tampa Bay. (@ Canucks.com)
- Henrik Sedin proves once and for all that he is the better twin and should have been the 2nd overall draft pick. (@ Canucks.com) In other news, Daniel Sedin goes on a goal scoring rampage to prove otherwise.
- Dave Nonis likes collecting players from the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He picked up 7th overall draft pick, Kris Beech, off of CBJ waivers. (@ Canucks.com) Is Patrik Stefan, the 1st overall draft pick, next on his list? Stay tuned.

So my predictions as to who will win the Hart Trophy (MVP as voted by media) and Lester B. Pearson (MVP voted by NHLPA) was pretty much correct, but looking at the bright side, since Luongo is too much of a competitive guy, I'm sure he will stone Sidney Crosby next year once the Pittsburgh Penguins visit GM Place.
I'm not too disappointed with who won the Vezina because, honestly, it was a toss up between Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo. Both have been fantastic goalies. Luongo was able to make the 2nd All Star team, though. :D Congrats Lui!
What surprised me though was Alain Vigneault winning the Jack Adams award (Coach of the Year). I thought he should win it, but I always thought the media would always have awarded it to some Eastern coach. :P Hehe
I'll post the rest of the results this weekend.
Anyone wants to youtube for me? :P I have class at around that time, so I won't be able to watch. *tear*
"It doesn't matter to us who is in net," said Carbonneau. "Even if Jesus is in net, we'll try to beat him."
You can try, Carbs. You can try. Luongo shut you out last time, he can shut you out again in 2 years. :D
Other things:
- Hot new forum system at Canucks.com. Totally loving the new features which includes quick reply, quick edit, multi-quoting. However, I do not love the (still existing) size restrictions on avatars (80 x 80) which resizes everything to 80 x 80. I don't like seeing stretched out images, all pixellized, cause they're bigger than their normal size.
- Canucks need 2 more wins to clinch the division. Make it happen, please. I'd like to know whether I can buy first round tickets or not. GO FOR THE HOME ICE ADVANTAGE, NUCKIES, otherwise, your first home game would be right around the start of my final exams and I won't be able to go watch a live game. *tear*
- Sami Salo is back in the lineup tonight! :D I'm still giddy over the 4-year contract extension.
So, I'll be writing my program while watching the Canucks game and I will try to live blog? If possible? I get too distracted to live blog... :P I need to focus on the game... so I will try. I doubt I have anything nice to say, since I usually have a potty mouth when I watch hockey games. That or I have a high pitched squeal when something remotely exciting happens.
Speaking of... I've been thinking of changing the name of this blog. :o I've been making fun of the "Hockey is a violent sport" perception for a while now in my Canucks.com signature, avatars and profile photo... Maybe I should name it something related to my "Hockey is about love, not violence" slogan. But that would make it seem like a general hockey blog, which this is not (really)... XD I will think on it.
Party with Swedish Twins (Vancouver Sun)
Sedate Sedins bust out (Vancouver Province)
HAHAHA! It will air in 3 weeks. I am loving the premise already. Love how they play the "Sedin Sisters" joke. HAH!!! AND WE GET TO SEE THEM DANCE!!!! AHHH!!!!!! XDDDDDD!!!
Roberto Luongo and Ryan Miller also filmed a commercial with Marty Turco during the All Star Break. It will air in a week! I can't wait to see them! XDDDDDD;;;
Surprisingly, this has been one of the more exciting All Star Games I've seen. I actually enjoyed it. I love that I didn't feel stressed out while watching it, except when Roberto Luongo was on the ice. I love how you can sort of feel the "East vs West" rivalry brewing up between the fans, and with the Vancouver Canucks just coming out of a 4 game Eastern road trip, some bragging rights were on the line to prove once (and for all) that the West is the Best.
And they did.
A lot of this year's All Star game revolved around the NHL's young stars, especially Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin. They were put in the same line with Brendan Shannahan, and sadly, their line had no chemistry at all, and they ended up not producing.
On the other hand, it was the Western's much more experienced players that brought home the bacon, with 4 players 1 goal away from scoring a hat trick. All the lines for the West pretty much clicked and were very effective. The same can be said for the East, except for the Crosby line.
I wasn't pleased with the way the Cheechoo-Thornton-Marleau line played... None of them can finish! I couldn't resist pulling my hair out! It was just so frustrating seeing that line out because they created so many good scoring chances, but they just couldn't put it in.
Rick Nash was so good this game! Brian Rolston's slapshot is a killer, and it makes me wonder why they didn't use him on the "Hardest Shot" competition in the SuperSkills. Heck.. the whole Western all stars were freaking awesome and really proved to the fans that they were deserving of the title this year.
Roberto Luongo had 2 scary moments in the first period.. the first one was when Jason Blake accidentally knocked his helmet off when he got his stick caught up and hit Luongo in the back of the head. I swear, all the Canucks' fans held their breath at that moment, and collectively breathed a sigh of relief to see he was alright. Then, Daniel Briere accidentally "bumped" into Luongo, and Lui has a "WHAT THE FUCK DUDE" look on his face, though he was smiling. At least Briere apologized. Blake didn't. Watch your back when we play you, Blake. X(
All 3 goaltenders for the Western Conference allowed 3 goals each. :D I felt bad for Brodeur. :( He looked ... not so good tonight. Really, if there was a goalie in that game that I wanted to get lit up, it was Ryan Miller. LOL!
It's kinda funny how both Brodeur and Luongo were taking this game really seriously. If you compare their reactions when a goal got scored on them to Miller, Kipprusoff, Huet, and Turco's reaction, there's a major difference. The other 4 goalies are actually smiling, probably thinking "HAHA D: GOOD GOAL". Broduer and Luongo are fiercely competitive, that when they got scored on, they looked really pissed off.
You still did good, Lui! :D
But yes! 12-9 for the West!! HAHAHAHA
... The NHL All Star Game 2006-2007 western starting goaltender is Roberto Luongo!
Sad that Rory didn't make it to at least give the All Star game some comedy value, but that's what the Eastern Conference starting forwards are for! :D Comedy!
Get this:
Daniel Briere - Sidney Crosby - Alexander Ovechkin
Haha!!! GOLD!!! That's money right there! Ovie, don't disappoint me! I want an all out brawl between you and Briere especially after he speared you in the nuts!
Oh man! Can you say AWKWARD?
The comforting part about it is that I saw he scored the same way on Kipper [Miikka Kiprusoff] and Marty Turco so I don't consider it a bad goal anymore. - Roberto Luongo on Brian Rolston's slap shot during penalty shots and shoot outs.
That bad goal wasn't really his fault, I thought it was more of a defensive mistake by Mitchell for not being more aggressive on Demitra, but I do like how he took responsibility for letting in that goal when it's his job to stop it, and stopped everything else after that.
I've been hard on Luongo before, but now I think he's starting to get more used to Vancouver and Alain Vigneault's system since lately, he's been very good. I think recently, most of the goals that were scored on him were more of mistakes on our defense, and not really bad goaltending (i.e. letting 384923 players crash our net and have their way with Luongo)
