Haha!
I won the Canucks.com's MCDONALD'S® GOALIE STAR STICKS CONTEST for this week's "POST OF THE WEEK" in the forum.
Apparently my winning post was in this thread, but as you can see ... :P all my posts are really not worthy.
ANNDDDDDDDDDDD
The Canucks won against the Wild tonight, OT style. That's how they roll.
:P I couldn't watch the first two periods of the game since I was just on my way home from work, but I caught the 3rd period, and man was that boring.
Actually, it'd be hard to find a game worthy of non-boringness after the awesomeness on Saturday.
Anyway, Canucks came back 2 times during the game, 1 in the 2nd period, and the next was in OT.
Tom Larscheid called Markus Naslund "Captain Clutch" after he scored the tying goal, and I just had to roll my eyes. I bet Larscheid posts in the Canucks forum and is one of those people who jump in and out of Nazzy's bandwagon depending if he scored a goal the game previous. :PPPPPPPPPPPP
Meanwhile, the other 'Captain Clutch' took a penalty at clutch time. AV, I know you think it's a dumb penalty, but please please please do not scratch Linden in favor of like.. Jeff Cowan if Taylor Pyatt returns in the lineup on Thursday.
I am not the biggest Trevor Linden fan, but I am a bigger fan of Trev than Cowan. gah.
That being said, the moment the Minnesota Wild fans started continuously booing Mattias Ohlund during the overtime period, I knew he was going to be part of the game winner. You just get that feeling, especially during crucial games like these, than players who gets booed would love nothing more than to shut up the boobirds.
Ohllie did not score the goal, but he sure played a huge role in setting it up.
:DDDDDDD
Next up. Nashville.
Canucks fathers are so adorable. Except Bieksa's Dad..... XD This is why Bieksa PWNS so much. Even his dad reeks of awesome. Look at that? Do you wan to mess with THAT?
They probably won the game for their proud papas. :D so cute!
What goes around, comes around. Such is the story of love... or hate.
Vancouver Canucks won the Valentine's Day showdown in St. Paul last year, so it might be fitting that the Minnesota Wild take the win for this year's tilt in Vancouver.
Despite what the score may suggest, the game was pretty boring for the most part. In the first period or so, it looked like Vancouver had the offensive advantage, especially when the Sedins and Naslund were cycling the puck. The problem was, they couldn't get a shot off their cycle, so all it achieved was keeping the opposition off our zone.
Nevertheless, most of the goals scored were really flukey goals, with the exception of Veilleux' 1st, Gaborik and Kesler's goals. The 2nd goal by the Wild was shot off the goal line and hit... someone (Veilleux?) and rolled on Luongo's back, then the third goal was a hard point shot that was tipped by Matt Cooke just enough to land in our net.
On the flip side of things, Alexander Edler scored two goals that Niklas Backstrom should have had. Well Edler's 2nd goal was something that could have been easily prevented if Demitra took him out of the play.
BUT ANYWAY.
It wasn't as spirited as the game last Sunday, and I am kinda shocked (and pleased) that they scored 4 goals. 4!!!
Hmm.. the shootout... Roberto Luongo got beat on the same shot twice for the Minny win...
... hmm... ALEX EDLER IS SO ADORABLE. XD I want to adopt him as a little brother.
Oh yeah, Taylor Pyatt has been unlucky lately when it comes to scoring goals. He's had opportunities to put the puck in an open net, but they ALWAYS. HIT. THE FREAKING POST.
Even though he hasn't been scoring much goals lately, I've noticed that Pyatt has upped his play on the boards, and he has been using his size more often to win those puck battles or protect the puck. Now he just needs to improve on his shot (his wrist shot) and learning to keep the puck on his stick.
What else?
Willie Mitchell is back in the lineup and is a +1. He played Gaborik pretty well tonight, except on that one goal where Gaborik just really showed his skill. It may still take a while before the blueline stabilizes, but I hope it does soon enough.
That's it. I'm officially quitting school. All the cool Canuck-related games happen when I can't watch it because of freaking school.
Anyway, so yes, I was only able to listen to the 3rd period for this one, and it was well worth it.
Markus Naslund SCORED A FREAKING HAT TRICK. His last one has been... forever!!! It's amazing, I'm very happy for him and would definitely want to see more of that from him.
Ryan Kesler scored the other goal, coast-to-coast, on a wraparound. Definitely the prettiest goal of the night, and wow, Kes is just exciting to watch when he's flying like that.
And you know what? Another goal for that line. Is it safe to call them our second line, now, even though technically their job is that of 3rd line checkers? Eitherway, our top 2 lines (Pinky-Brain-Nazzy; Iz-Kes-Pyatt) have scored in the last 4 games, and the team itself has combined for 18 goals in that stretch.
Isn't it wonderful?
The game apparently turned out to be pretty disappointing for fans who were waiting for a big brouhaha. All that came out of it is a pretty wicked nickname for the Sedin Twins. Thank you Boogieman. Pinky and the Brain is definitely catchier than "The Sedin Sisters" :D.
serge20k from the forums suggested that DJ Dave play the "Pinky and the Brain" theme song when the Twins scores... :P That would be made of awesome.
Also? Good game, Sanford. Although I heard you were a lean, mean rebound machine tonight, congrats on being undefeated so far in the season. Thank your forwards that they are scoring for you to get you the win. Dany Sabourin wasn't as fortunate in his few starts last season.
Next game is against St. Louis. And fuck. I just promised my friend that I'd go shopping with her after school. ARGH. I can't believe I'm missing another one.
Wow. Intense game last night and I was fortunate to be there.
I woke up this morning, and my throat was raw.. I don't remember screaming that much, and that loud, during a regular season game, but wtih the Canuck scoring 6 goals, nasty plays from both teams, you can't help but BE LOUD.
So yes, a very fun game. I mean, how can it not be fun when 4 of your favorite Canucks score, and also 1 of your favorite Baby Nuckies get his first career goal?
Most of all, I loved Taylor Pyatt's goal, not because it was he himself who scored it, but because his new line with Ryan Kesler and Brad Isbister deserves it. Even though Kes did not get an assist in this one (it as Alex Edler who kept the puck in and got the assist), that line has been working hard since they've been put together. They've been placed against the opposing teams' top lines and, for the most part, they have been very effective both in keeping them either pinned in their own zone with great forechecking and cycling, or having good defensive coverage.
Markus Naslund and Daniel Sedin both scored goals in the powerplay, and it's glad to see that top line getting points tonight. We haven't seen offensive production from that line since their first game against Colorado a couple of weeks ago. I think it's because they haven't been shooting a lot, and the other team has been keeping them off good scoring slots, etc, so it's great to see them get it together in the powerplay at least.
Mattias Ohlund had a big night tonight. One goal, one assist, one slash, the game's first star... I have to admit the slash was ugly and everyone is discussing whether it's suspension worthy or not, but he did it in response to Koivu's elbow. I don't want Ohllie to get suspended, as the Canucks can't really afford to lose another defenseman right now, and personally, I don't think he will be just because the intent to injure was not there as it was more of a reactionary attack than anything else. The elbow he received probably had more "intent". On the other hand, the NHL should be more consistent with such stick infractions (along with hits/elbows to the head) when it comes to penalties, so.......... :P
Anyway, Luc Bourdon scored his first NHL career goal. It was so awesome. I swear, I saw it coming. Everytime Ritchie switched positions with Luc at the point in the powerplay, I was practically at the edge of my seat and when he scored his first goal, the whole place went nuts. There were a few people in the arena going "LUUUUUUUUUUC". Hehe. Maybe AV will put him back on the point in the PP now. X(
Other notes... Alex Edler with that huge hit on Boogard. That was hilarious. I wonder if he even knew that it was Boogard he was checking? So cute! Little Edler trying to be tough! Then Boogard went after Willie. HAHA. WTF. HAHA. I was watching the game I PVRed on TV and he went after Willie while he was going to pick up his stick. What an idiot.
Kesler and Gaborik was jawing all night. I swear, everytime there was whistle, those two are trying to annoy each other. Then Gaborik elbowed Kes' face. There goes that respect for Gaborik. HAHA.
Trevor Linden also scored his first goal of the season on a extremely horrible play by Backstrom. :P Practically an open net goal for Trev. Heh.
Hmmmm... I had a lot to say yesterday, now I just forgot because I'm excited for the football game tomorrow...
Pic spam for now.
It was a pretty disappointing loss for Vancouver tonight against Minnesota Wild. After a good first period in which they scored 2 (lucky) goals, they took their foot off the pedal and handed over the keys to Minnesota Wild to control the game.
No one really dominated the play for the Canucks, especially after the first period. The Sedin-Sedin-Pyatt line was rendered useless as they were stuck in the defensive zone most of the time, and really.. same can be said for most lines. During the rare times they were able to gain the offensive zone, the chances quickly disappears as they lose control of the puck very quickly and they are back on the defensive again.
I guess they just didn't have any jump tonight as this game didn't have as much emotion compared to the previous 2 games against the Wild.
- Our powerplay stunk. Stunk worse than food that's gone bad. They can't even gain entry into the offensive zone, and when they try to chip the puck in, they can't retrieve it. The point shots aren't going through, most of them are blocked or miss the net entirely.
- This is the type of game where the Canucks really miss Willie Mitchell. I'm not saying Mattias Ohlund or Kevin Bieksa did a poor job on defense, they were wonderful, but if Willie was able to play tonight, not only would he have absolutely shut down the Wild in those crucial minutes, he would have also allowed Ohlund and Bieksa to freely jump up into the play to create offensive zone chances. Surprisingly, Krajicek was the defenceman who pinched in the most and was mostly effective in the offensive zone.
- I find it hilarious that Marian Gaborik was going after Kevin Bieksa the whole night. Every chance he got, it seemed like he was more focused on hitting Bieksa than actually playing the puck. Maybe he's still bitter from that huge hit Bieksa laid out on him back in Minnesota on their Valentine's Day tilt?
- One good thing is that we didn't take a lot of penalties this game, and we also killed off the penalties that we did take. The bad thing is that we took ourselves out of a powerplay 2 times. ...Not that it matters anyway since our PP wasn't working.
Poor Luongo. When will he reach that 40 win mark? :D
Just quick points since I have a midterm to study for :P
- WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE MINNESOTA WILD? When did games against Minnesota become this exciting?
- WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO JEFF COWAN? Who turned this guy into a goal scoring machine?
- And Willie Mitchell? Are you sure you're not Kevin Bieksa in Mitchell's jersey? Since when did you take over the offense in that defense pair?
- Damn you Josh Green for spreading the flu around the locker room!!! Now it has reached Luongo and he looked a bit off his game tonight, but not horrendous enough that he cost us the game. At least he held on and won the shootout for us.
- Nazzy, is there any shootout scoring potion I can give you to at least boost your confidence? I really want to see you score in the shootout, and I'll keep waiting until you do. I honestly don't mind that Vigneault keeps putting Naslund on the shootout. He has said before that he wants his best player on the ice for the ice, even if he hasn't scored in a while. I'll be patient and wait for Nazzy to roof it.
- Taylor Pyatt on the shootout. AHHHHHHH. He didn't score, but I almost wanted him to put it 5-hole, like what he did in his previous 2 breakaway goals. Better luck next time.
- Sedin line was totally shut down tonight. They were given no room to work on their cycle. Luckily, Daniel Sedin wasn't shut down enough as he scored the game winning shoot out goal. What is he now? 1 for 9348234? jk. I think he's 1 for 5.
- Sami Salo now set a new career high in goals, with 11 this season. In came in the first period to tie the game 1-1. Bryan Smolinski also recorded his 2nd point as a Canuck by assisting on that goal.
Overall, that game was worth the $12 we paid for the PPV. As I said before, I don't remember games against Minnesota to be this exciting. You almost look forward to the next time we play them if all the games are going to be likes this.
Next up is Vinny and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Let's go Canucks!
Actually, you do more than play. You shut out the Edmonton Oilers 5-0 on Thursday, believing the angel painted on the back of your mask is also watching over your sister.
"I'm pretty sure she had a lot to do with that shutout," Harding, a 22-year-old rookie from Regina, said Friday after practising with the Minnesota Wild for Sunday's game against the Vancouver Canucks. "I dedicate every game I play to her. Her initials are on the back of my helmet, so she's always with me." - Goalie playing pretty in pink
After reading that article, it makes me feel like I want Canucks to lose the game against Minnesota if Harding starts. It's just so heartwarming, sad and it makes you feel like Wild winning the game with him in net is the only way you can show your support to him.
Oh well, good luck to both teams. Looks like Backstrom starting for Wild, so GO CANUCKS GO.
Just a quick post about the game today, as I'm supposed to be studying for a midterm tomorrow ;).
- Good, high energy game by both teams. Hard to remember when was the last time I watched an exciting game against the Wild, but this one is just pure emotion. Tons of hitting, tons of scoring chances, tons of speed.
- Canucks strike first in this game with a goal by Markus Naslund in the powerplay. Nice slap pass by Brendan Morrison. Nazzy's been pretty hot lately and I'm glad he became hot at the right time.
- Daniel Sedin also scored after Minnesota Wild tied the game in the 2nd period. He hooked up with his dancing partner and roofed his own rebound.
- Marian Gaborik is SICK. I swear, I hate this guy cause he's so fast and he always creates these chances for himself and teammates using that speed. Our defencemen did have a couple of nice defensive, one-on-one plays against him though, the most notable one came in the overtime period, in which Kevin Bieksa just challenged him and pushed him off the puck.
- Sami Salo has to be our "Mr. Overtime" #2. Man XD; I didn't expect such a nice goal from him. We're all so used to seeing him just blast the puck through the goal that I don't think we've ever seen a pretty goal like that one coming from him. Loved the goal celebration, too. HAHA. AND BURROWS KNOCKED HIM DOWN WTF BURROWS!
Overall, good game. I wish there more games like this against Minny. Thank god I didn't skip it to study for my midterms :P! SO NOW I'm studying. BYE
The 7 game winning streak has been broken, but that will only mean we can start a new one.
- I don't think they even wanted to show up this game? I haven't seen the last 2 Canucks games cause they were on PPV, but from what I heard, they've been outplayed. I think now, everything just didn't go right for them that when the other team outplayed them, they couldn't go back and tie the game like they used to. Tons of credit goes to the Wild because they really played well. Really hard hockey and they played like they really wanted to break their 11 game road losing streak, which they achieved.
- The keyword is: LIFT! Lift the puck and you'll have success! 2 or 3 Canucks scoring chances were saved by Manny Fernandez because we seem to think we can miraculously put the puck in the net w/o putting it up the goalie's pad/stick. Okay, maybe they were trying, but still. Didn't they watch Gaborik's first goal of the night and see the "lifting" movement?
- The Pylon scored! Hahahaha! And dude, what a nice play by Jan Bulis, seriously! I like that little spinorama thing that he did to avoid the Wild player, nice pass to Ryan Kesler, who actually did the right play and dished the puck to Taylor Pyatt who just taps it in.
- WILLIE MITCHELL SCORED!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!! This makes me the happiest! hahahaha!!! Another nice play on the 4-on-4! Good puck movement, Bieksa leaves the puck for Markus Naslund and he saw Mitchell coming in, and shot the puck towards the net, and Mitchell tips it in!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!! Right before this happened, right after Pyatt scored, I was telling my brother "Next thing you know, Mitchell will break his 43 goalless drought!" AND I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING WHEN HE DID!!!
- Edler..... did okay. I think this is one of his worst games (?) as a Canuck? And even for a bad game, he wasn't really all that bad.
What a depressing game. Well, depressing for me because I wanted to go all out in watching my first game in a bar, and although we did score 2 goals and I got to cheer/yell/squeal, it would have been nicer if it was a win. I reckon we're in the bottom of the division again?
First, the whole "watching in a bar/pub" experience. It wasn't really an experience since I did go on a Tuesday night, on a bar that's not even popular, but it was still mostly packed with people.
I tried my hardest not to display the same attitude that I show while watching games at home (screaming at the players, dishing out sarcastic, harsh comments, squealing/yelling/talking really loud in general) but it was difficult. There was this one time when the Canucks were trying to jam the lose puck in the net and I didn't realize I was squealing/yelling out "GO GO GO GO GO *puck got jammed away from goalie* NOOOOOOOO!". Afterwards, everybody was sorta just looking at me, and one guy sitting in front of us, laughed and pointed "SQUEALER!" At that point, I tried to shut up the rest of the game, and thankfully, my friend who hasn't seen since high school arrived and I became more focused on talking/catching up with her that squealing was tucked away in the back of my head.
Anyway, after the 1st period, I wasn't really focused in the game anymore cause our food arrived and me and my friends are all catching up with each other's lives.
But........ Roberto Luongo gave up a goal on the first shot again on a hard shot by Demitra (again). Ehh.. I don't know. Poor defensive coverage plus a shot that he should have stopped.... @_@! He did make big saves though to keep the game bearable, but not enough to keep it from becoming 4 goals + 1 empty netter.
My love/hate relationship with Taylor Pyatt continues as I was again screaming hatred at him to do something with the puck, anything but turning it over, and then my heart filled with love as he had an assist on Canucks' first goal of the game by Trevor Linden. That was a good play, too. Pyatt actually used his size to shield the puck! :D I am very impressed.
The other goal by the Canucks came from Kevin Bieksa on a 5-on-3 powerplay in the 3rd period. Man, I swear, he's exceeded all expectations. Last year, when he was first called up, he didn't score any goals for the 30-something games he was here for. At the beginning of the season, he started as a 5th/6th defenceman and no one even knew when he will score his first career NHL goal and if he will turn out alright, but now? 7 goals, 8 assists and is often a Top 4 defenceman, but is sometimes paired with Willie Mitchell for Top 2 spot, shutting down the league's top lines. Wow. Really. His play last year wasn't spectacular, but he improved a whole lot. I'm just amazed.
Overall, Minnesota outplayed Vancouver. I've said this before, Canucks has a win-loss pattern where every few games/weeks, some team will just outscore them and win. BAH.
And AUGH. Matt Cooke. -_-; That penalty he took for punching Boogard (?) when that guy was sitting on the bench? WTF was that??? Does this guy have any common sense? Do you even have a brain Cooke??? I understand if you take reasonable penalties, but that's just a stupid, stupid, stupid one. Even if the guy was smacktalking you, you should know better than to punch him while he's in the Wild bench since you're clearly the one who will be penalized. X( I am so angry. We were down 1-0, too, and augh. I'm just frustrated with him. I'm still bitter about that penalty he took against the Ducks, right after we tied it 1-1.
I used to like Cooke, but right now he barely does anything. The amount of good things he has done is less than the amount of the annoying/bad ones.
Next game is Boston Bruins. Go Canucks go!
