First thought while listening to Francesco Aquilini's press conference: "Oh god it was a knee jerk reaction."
Second thought was: "Oh god, the Canucks are screwed."
Wow, I am just shocked. I was hoping for any sort of explanation as to why Dave Nonis was fired and he didn't come up with any except we didn't make the playoffs and he's accountable for the fans happiness, "'We felt a change in direction of this team and the leadership was necessary.'' Uhh, gee Aquilini, you sound like one of those CDC armchair GMs except you actually have the money to get what you want.
And seriously, I was just amazed (in disbelief, really) at his answers to the all the questions. For a guy who says they need a change in 'leadership', he can't even define what 'leadership' is to him. He fumbled with his answers and was just like "uhh.. someone with vision"... Exact quotes:
"Leadership is vision. You have to have a vision of where you want to go. You have to have the support group around you to get you there. You have to have the ability to execute. Leadership is a buzzword that a lot of people use, but at the end of the day, it’s about quality people who are committed to what they’re doing, people who serve the organization, people who care and people who can get the job. That’s what it comes down to – just getting the job done."
Hmm...
It seemed to me Nonis had a "vision" as to where he wants to go. He also had a great support group in Steve Tambellini who backs his decision. It also seems like Nonis has been able to execute on his vision. He has said all along that he will be building from the net out, and he has done that. The next step of his process was working with the offense. Nonis serves the organization, he obviously cares about our future by refusing to sacrifice a huge chunk of it for quick fixes...
Looks like Nonis pretty much fit your criteria, Aquilini? Maybe what you meant was a GM who has the same vision of where YOU want to go, not HIS vision on how he sees the team. Also maybe you should change that criteria of being able to execute to being able to execute ASAP.
Seriously I am just shaking my head throughout the whole press conference. My mother was also in shock.
Yesterday she thought the firing of Dave Nonis is good news because perhaps it might lead to some 'good changes', but both of us agreed that this turn of events is just horrible.
And that question about the ability of the team to hire a new GM when they might be hesitant to come to the team due to "job security" (after all 2 GMs fired in the span of 5 years)... His answer consisted of "we did this for the fans, we want to win" repeat x 10.
Wow, you sure gave the fans more confidence with your whole presscon Aquilini.
I just want to bitch about everything right now...
My thoughts are in a jumble since I was listening to this presscon on my way to a chem final at 12.
Ugh.
I'd be shock if there's a Canucks fan out there who felt more confident with the direction this ownership group is leading the team after that interview.
It didn't even seem like he had a plan. He hasn't even setup an advisory committee to look at potential candidates for the GM position. He didn't even know what "signed off" meant.
What. the. fuck.
The only time I had a boost of confidence was when Chris Zimmerman answered a couple questions in place of Francesco Aquilini. At least Chris was CONFIDENT with his answers and he actually gave us something more solid.
I am very scared.
Nonis has been CANNED like TUNA!
I have 2 finals coming up in the next two days so I can't discuss such huge news.
I fucking hate you Canucks for doing this to me. I want to be able to spend my time reading forums about this. gah.
- Luongo says his pregnant wife is >>> All Star Game. He will also miss the home game against Dallas Stars after the All Star break and would meet with the team in Florida for their game against Tampa Bay. (@ Canucks.com)
- Henrik Sedin proves once and for all that he is the better twin and should have been the 2nd overall draft pick. (@ Canucks.com) In other news, Daniel Sedin goes on a goal scoring rampage to prove otherwise.
- Dave Nonis likes collecting players from the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He picked up 7th overall draft pick, Kris Beech, off of CBJ waivers. (@ Canucks.com) Is Patrik Stefan, the 1st overall draft pick, next on his list? Stay tuned.
- Aquilini still owns the Canucks. (@ The Province)
Hey, Mikee the Yankee, the good news, you won't get searches for "Taylor Pyatt's girlfriend" anymore. The bad news is, it will be replaced with "Taylor Pyatt's wife" instead. :P
*cackles*
Anyway, Ryan Kesler, the Canucks resident nerd, gamer, wannabe Eminem, and now, gossip, mentioned in his blog that Fatty Cushion Sofa Pyatt is married.
Willie is not pleased. X(
[add] Also, Mason Raymond has been sent down to the depths of Manitoba to play with the baby Nuckies, but has now been recalled back into the snuggly arms of the Mommie and Daddie Nuckies in Vancouver. :)
Welcome back, Raisin!
Watched the mini interview he had with Dan Murphy on Sportsnet Connected and I think the whole thing is just a rumor.
I think someone from the media took one of his quotes and blew it out of proportion and say he wanted to be traded. From the interview, he denied that he wanted out, and it is just a rumor, but yes, he has talked to Dave Nonis before because he's had trouble adjusting in Vancouver, but he has a year left in his contract and then he'll see what he will do.
I guess I can understand why people think that talking to Dave Nonis = trade, but I think it's more of him and Nonis talking about his progress in Vancouver more than anything.
We'll see how this goes.
It's Jan Freaking Bulis! The player who apparently wanted out.
Hot damn. Now I gotta read the article tomorrow! Maybe the Sedin Twins pulled one too many pranks on him and he didn't like it.
Stop playing pranks on the other players Sedins! Geez!!!
But dude. I got to see his reason... I mean:
- Alain Vigneault has been giving him more ice time.
- He lets him play on all situations: penalty kill, powerplay, even strength, even on 4-on-4.
- Vigneault has also placed him on "good" lines.
@_@ I really got to see his reasons.. Though he said it was just rumors that he wanted out of Vancouver, but he and Nonis have been discussiing how he's had trouble adjusting to the team...
Man. I'm just more scared for what this can do to team chemistry, especially with him playing on the top line. I'm sure players wouldn't want to hear their teammate wanting to be traded when they're on a season high in wins, and all are playing so well.
Of all the people who I thought would pull a Pronger on us, I didn't think it would be Bulis.
Some guy who writes for the Province was on Pratt & Taylor (Team 1040) and teased the fans with his article tomorrow about a "certain Vancouver Canuck wants out of Vancouver". Mass pandemonium ensues.
Although I'm dying of curiousity as to who it is, if it's even valid, or some dude just wanting to make another "soap opera" out of the Vancouver Canucks during their happy days, I won't buy the paper. :D I'll just go to McD's for my usual breakfast and read it off their copy. HAHAHA. YEAH. CANUCKS DRAMA WON'T MAKE ME BUY YOUR NEWSPAPER!!!
If this is true.... I'm guessing Marc Chouinard? Though I really don't want to see him go, but he is taking up a chunk of or cap space. :(! I already grew attached to the guy and I think he was just being misused sometimes!
But as long as it isn't like Markus Naslund, Mattias Ohlund, Willie Mitchell, Sedin Twins, Roberto Luongo, ... insert Canucks roster... and Taylor Pyatt (WHO AM I GOING TO YELL AT ON TV!! T_T!) Kekeke. Yeah. :x I grow rather attached to the players in my team... except Matt Cooke. :x Maybe he's the only one I can take going. Sorry Cookie Monster.
