I freaking hate Shaw PPV. It's either:
- We order and the Canucks get severely owned. (Flyers... Ducks...)
- We order and the Canucks are winning but the feed DIES. (TONIGHT)
Well, sadly for Shaw Customer Service, my mother is the type who are customer service representative's nightmare. Trust me, I know. I work for IT Tech Support in my university, and we get these types of people fairly often. My mother is one of them. The type who yells at the phone and demands everything to be fixed or refunded in full and won't stop yelling type. :3
Anyway, she's talking with one of those reps now :P already arguing to get credit back for that game. It's hard to calm her down since she'll just get angrier at us and the rep if we try to get her to relax... But yeah.
I wasn't able to watch the game except for the end of the 1st period (just as Carcillo scored) and the beginning of the 3rd period (Thank you, Shaw PPV).
I was studying in a cafe and I did not know my mom was going to order the game. >_>
Glad to see that at least one of the Sedin twins bumped their goal slump, and my favorite fat guy also got that weight off his back.
Bad news though.. Mason Raymond is out for 4 weeks with a knee injury after that hit by Ballard? Shaw PPV cut off right at that moment so I can't comment on the hit.
Of course Canucks side will say it's a dirty hit, Coyotes side will say it's all clean. I haven't seen the replays so can't comment.
But yes, can't comment much about the game since I was only able to watch a grand total of like 5 minutes of it. Or less.
P.S.
My Mother 2 - Shaw Customer Service Rep -10
Mom: What EXCELLENT coverage tonight.
Shaw: Uhh...
Mom: EXCELLENT coverage. I WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IMPRESSED.
Shaw: Are you calling about the Canucks PPV game?
Mom: YES, it was WONDERFUL...
Shaw: Yeah, we've been authorized to give partial credit for the 3rd period.
Mom: *cue yelling and screaming and kicking*
Shaw: *tries to argue*
Mom: *outyells the guy into submission*
Shaw: ... T_T You can talk to our Supervisor
*on hold*
Mom: *Probably collecting breath for more yelling*
ShawSuper: *tries to argue why he can't give out full credit*
Mom: *TKOs the guy into submission*
ShawSuper: Okay we're giving you full credit.
Mom: *complains about the Anaheim PPV game last week*
ShawSuper: Uhh.. what was your problem with it? *thinking the feed did not cut out at all*
Mom: *yells about quality of the PPV*
ShawSuper: *tries to resist*
Mom: TKOs the guy into submission again*
ShawSuper: Okay we'll give you 50% credit for that game.
Mom: :D Thank you~ Have a great day!
Me: So what happened.
Mom: :DDDDDDDD Full Credit for tonights game and 50% for Anaheim's game!
Me: WHYYYYYY were you getting a refund for the Ducks game???
Mom: :( They lost. And remember the quality was bad???!! :(((???
Me: ...... I think it has more to do wtih the arena than the PPV quality mom.
Mom: Whatever we got our money back.
I am lazy and sleepy right now, so I'll just quickly point out my thoughts or summary, whatever.
- Thank you Dave Tippet for starting Johan Holmqvist tonight. I don't want to speculate, but it might have been possible that the Canucks wouldn't have scored those 3 goals if it was Turco starting in net.
- Naslund-Morrison-Pettinger line was great. As Naslund said after the game, he's the slow one on that line, so he has to ride those two, but I really think the fast rushing game is what suits Naslund best.
- Markus Naslund was in on all 4 goals tonight. He helped set up the first one by Matt Pettinger, it was his powerplay unit that scored the 2nd goal, then he scored the 3rd one, and threw a puck on the net for Morrison to deflect for the game winning goal. Even though the GWG is such a total garbage goal, Brendan Morrison said Nazzy threw the puck on net because he knew he was heading towards it. He looked back, saw Mo coming, so he just threw it there in case good things happen. Luckily, Marty Turco directed the rebound right at Morrison and Robidas' face.
- Although Matt Pettinger scored a pretty goal for his 2nd as a Canuck, what I really liked was his play in Nazzy's goal. I guess I have just been disillusioned recently because of all the 2 on 1 / 2 on 0 opportunities with Bulis last year.. and Bulay will elect to score himself instead of passing to Naslund. But overall, Petting Zoo was again solid. Great on the PK, scored 3 points... Yeah. :)
- Oh right, Nazzy also had a penalty shot. It didn't look good at all. I cringed when they gave him the penalty shot.. :P I think the league should allow the player to choose between a penalty shot or a minor penalty. XD; He also had a late 2 on 1 opportunity.. he hesitated, and then the moment was lost. In times like these, you would just know if that was Naslund of old, he won't even hesitate in going for the goal.
- Canucks with a 3-0 lead at one point of game = VERY GOOD
- Canucks giving up that 3-0 lead in the 2nd period = HORRIBLE
- Roberto Luongo is pretty bad at one-on-one breakaways this year... Well, I'm not sure about last year, he may have just been as bad since I remember all those Lombardi SHG, but yeah... maybe it's the speed that fools him? If a player on a breakaway doesn't have much speed on Lui, he usually saves it... It's the fast ones that kill him. (HELLO NAZZY :D! Speed can sometimes kill.)
- Trevor Linden had a pretty okay game for his first game back after multiple healthy scratches (though I noticed everytime the 4th line was on the ice... Dallas is in our zone :x), but icing the puck two times at the last few seconds of the game may have just earned him another one-way ticket to the press box. Unfortunate, but he really just gave Vigneault a reason to place him back there. He was placed on the ice for the last few seconds because he has always been smart with the puck, instead he iced it twice. Poor guy.
In other news... CORY SCHNEIDER WITH HIS 2ND PRO-CAREER SHUTOUT!! 33 SAVES! Let's go SCHNEIDS!
- If I counted the times Shorty said something along the lines of one Canuck missing the other Canuck's pass, I would have enough money to buy new shoes.
- And everytime they get the puck on their stick, it's like someone rubbed butter on it before the game. It just keeps slipping away.
- And Nuckies? Dump and chase usually means either you dump the puck all the way behind the goalline, NOT HALFWAY WHERE YOU CAN'T CHASE or when you dump all the way to the goalline... please, CHASE. And not just 1 person chasing. You need at least 2 people to get that puck back.
- The Sedin powerplay units are brutal tonight. Even more brutal than the Naslund-Morrison unit. Everytime I see them on the ice hogging the puck for 1.5 minutes without doing anything, I know we won't score on the PP. I miss the days when the Sedins actually sometimes try to shoot the puck on the PP. Or pass it to someone who will.
- And it's like the Sedin's defensive game just suddenly decided to disappear recently.
- Roberto Luongo: What is up with the first goal you let in? I know you want to improve and diversify your goalie style, but please... do that in the preseason. Don't imitate Hasek now.
- Yeah. Just no intensity. They had some at the first 3 or so minutes, then KAPUT!
- Everytime we have ordered PPV, I think the Canucks has lost... *trying to think of a game we've ordered that they've won*
[editted]
:P But the main reason they really lost, as pointed out in point no. 7, the Ducks took it to us and won the battles. That's it. We started by playing better, and I think if we just kept puck possession for more than 2 seconds, it would have been a different hockey game, but they beat us in every puck battle. They knew our D is hurting so they hit hard every chance they got. They were just hungrier for the puck and it showed.
Well, I got too lazy to continue with the "live blog" and wanted to concentrate on watching the game.
L.A.'s first goal is sheer... well first bad luck because Willie Mitchell broke his stick which led to that odd man rush, then Kevin Bieksa picked the wrong guy to cover... and well... nice shot by Patrick O'Sullivan.
Thank God Alex Burrows and Ryan Kesler pulled through to tie and score the winning goals.
Anyway, I need to write my paper so I can't comment anymore.
Markus Naslund, Mason Raymond, and Matt Pettinger all had good games. Nazzy especially, the way he worked the offensive zone, it just sucks it didn't show on the scoresheet.
Brendan Morrison also had a good game. I'm glad the Canucks have him back. He makes the 4th line so much more dangerous than it usually is. :)
07:33 OMG! It's so awesome seeing Mo skating around!!!
You've been missed Mo!
07:38 Staples Center is a such a pretty building.
And Clouts! Long time no see! Let in a few for us, please? Just enough to get us a win!
07:39 Oh god. The first minute and they've already been dominated in their own zone.
Hi Jack!!! <3
I sorta wished they played Luc Bourdon tonight. Luc vs Kopi.
07:41 Good forecheck by the Naslundian one and the rest of his line.
07:42 Mo! With Ritchie and Shannon... what a mighty tiny line.
Great. Tripping penalty against Alex Edler. GAH.
07:47 Oh Clouts. Up to your old tricks chopping people in the shins. :)
Mo in the PP! What happened to easing him into the lineup?
07:50 Another penalty for the Canucks. They seem to be penalty magnets when they're on the road recently.
Nice steal Willie.
Hehehe good job Pyatt, attacking Brown and Lubo.
Hah. Mo is in the PK, too.
07:55 OMG PYATT. YOU'RE MISSING SO MUCH SCORING CHANCES!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU LATELY?
Nice shots coming from the Naslund-Pettinger-Raymond line... if only the D can hit the puck...
Is that a LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I hear??? Are we in Vancouver or Los Angeles?
07:58 I am supposed to be working on my Philosophy paper.
And ugh. There goes Taylor Pyatt missing a scoring chance again. AHHH!!!
OMG. HENRIK. AHH. MY GOD.
Clouts is on fire or the Canucks are just not shooting hard enough? At least the Canucks are clearly dominating so far.
Jack Johnson <3
OMG MORE SCORING CHANCES FOR THE CANUCKS!!
Let's go Nas-
Gah Cloutier is definitely on fire. Somebody needs to get a fire extinguisher. And I hope that extinguisher comes as goals for the Canucks.
08:02 Canucks are very good at cycling the puck. :)
I swear... Kevin Bieksa jumps into a scrum looking to fight someone. It's like he is making up for not being able to fight anyone during his injury.
08:05 Bleh. Another powerplay for the Kings.
Everytime Hughson says something goes off Taylor Pyatt.. I always think of the MICHELIN MAN.
08:10 OMG SAMI SALO YOU SHOULD HAVE SHOT THAT!! WHY THE HECK DID YOU PASS???
*BANGS HEAD ON A WALL SOMEWHERE*
08:25 Game on! Come one Canucks, keep the pressure on.
I don't get why it's Mason Raymond who's taking the faceoffs, when Mo is there? I'm guessing they are just being cautious with his wrist?
POST. AUGH.
08:30 SHOOT SHOOT SHOOOOT AUGH.
WEAK. GAH. GET THE REBOUNDS. AHH.
08:35 Gah. Bieksa needs to learn how to clear the puck as soon as he has it on his stick.
Kopitar has such nice curls.
haha. Nice! Powerplay. :D BUT THEY CAN'T FREAKING SCORE.
Crawford has more gray hair now than when I last saw him. :( *gives him some Just for Men*
SWITCH THE SIDES OF OHLUND AND SALO..... GAH SO THEY CAN DO TEN MILLION MORE ONE TIMERS.
08:38 I just realized Brendan Morrison wasn't on that powerplay.
I hate this Subway commercial.
THE ANSWER IS THE MONKEY'S SUB YOU MOFOS. CHANGE IT FOR ONCE, GEEZ.
08:44 More scoring chances.
Sami Salo had an awkward fall.
Canucks are not eating up the freebies Dan Cloutier has been handing out in terms of HUGE REBOUNDS.
08:48 OMG IS THAT A GOAL??
OMGOMG. I HATE THE TYPES THAT THEY REVIEW. It's almost like shootouts. excexpt
-- I saw the video replay and I don't think it's a goal.
LOL. Isbister trying to "sell" the goal in the replay. Oh Izzlebizzle.
Yeah, that's a no goal, even if it is, it's definitely inconclusive. They will only count this if the refs hate Clouts and Crow that much. :D
08:50 Yep. No goal. Good call refs.
NOW WORK FOR A GOAL YOU GUYS!!! (Not that you aren't working hard, you guys are.. Cloutier has been stoning you...
Maybe he watch Canucks games on his free time and has a book on you people...
08:57 God. They are getting the shots, Cloutier has just been good tonight.
Sami Salo is back and is not injured. :) Thank God!
Markus Naslund is still owning the Kings so far, but the story of the night? Can't hit the back of Cloutier's net.
You know, sometimes I wonder what this team is really capable of in terms of offense. Most nights they play defensively and cautiously, and we don't see them apply good speed on the forecheck, and they can't score goals. You wonder whether they're just a slow team, but then they play these types of games and they show that they can play with speed, shoot the puck like there's no tomorrow, and just plain dominate offensively.
Of course that shorthanded goal by Alex Burrows at the first minute (?), I think, helped their confidence early on. After scoring two goals, the other one by Alexander Edler, although they gave up one short handed right after, they weren't playing cautiously and just blasted through the offensive zone, had some good forecheck, maintained possession of the puck and shot it. Lots.
44, actually.
Maybe they read Ovie's quotes about shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot the puck, you can't score if you don't shoot?
Anyway, that was highly entertaining. So much speed, pretty goals, good transition game in the neutral zone, great saves by Roberto Luongo...
Mason Raymond definitely made a case as to why he should never. be scratched. EVER. AGAIN. Scored a goal, but he could have easily scored 2 more. Just showed some really good skill out there, both in playmaking and goalscoring. And for a small guy, he's really good at winning the puck battles by the boards.
Alexander Edler and Luc Bourdon had pretty good nights. Both young defencemen played solid games and really stepped up to the plate with the absence of Mattias Ohlund. Alexander Edler even contributed a goal in the powerplay, which is Ohllie's forte, so it was great.
Kevin Bieksa was a total badass in tonight's game.
First he was a badass because of that bad pass to Markus Naslund in the first goal against (though Nazzy should have had that and then bad defensive coverage after the turnover). Then he scored a badass goal to make it 4-2. And in the 3rd period, he shot the puck at Fiddler (who apparently shot the puck towards him first) then fought deVries. Nailed him first, but then he himself got nailed pretty good...
What else?
Markus Naslund and Roberto Luongo both had pretty bad starts to the game... Nazzy with those two awful giveaways which both led to goals... and Luongo should have saved the 2nd one. The good thing was, they both bounced back and played a solid game afterwards.
Nazzy didn't have a lot of ice time tonight though. There were a lot of penalties in the game for Vancouver, so he obviously does not kill penalties, and during the powerplay, the Sedins and their unit usually keep the puck in the offensive zone for 1.5 minutes, that the second unit does not have any chance to go on.
Speaking of the Sedins, they are seriously cursed right now or something. They got their chances. Good ones. It's just not going in.
MATT PETTINGER!! scored his first as a Canuck. :P It's the type of goal I hate seeing being scored on us, but good on him to give that extra effort and push the puck/glove in. :PPPP
... I had more things to say, but I can't remember right now...
Nevertheless, it was a very entertaining game. Lots of GOALZ from 6 different players. :)
Good job Nuckies!
Just when you think it's not going to get worse, it did.
Other than the usual comment about Canucks not playing well... I thought Alain Vigneault should have kept the Sedin-Sedin-Naslund line intact. Pyatt-Raymond-Shannon line and Burrows-Kesler-Pettinger/Isbister line were doing just fine and dandy, providing that secondary scoring, though to be honest, it has only been those two lines that has been scoring lately.
Now, AV messed up the lines and we only have Burrows-Kesler-whoeverisonthisline scoring. Lovely.
Game wise, the Blackhawks deserved this win. Not only did they dominate in the offensive zone, they dominated in their own defensive zone, not allowing the Canucks any chances at all. We had 10 shots on goal, but I don't think any of those are "quality" scoring chances.
And the powerplay. AV. Why are you not switching Salo and Ohlund on the blue line so either of them can get the one timer off? God. This has been pissing me off since last season. He absolutely refuses to switch the defensemen's sides on the powerplay, no wonder we suck at it so much.
Matt Pettinger did his best Matt Cooke impersonation this game with his hit on Jonathan Toews. The good news is, he didn't turtle when Barker came to defend Toews. I think he won that bout, too. But guh. I hate how they gave Pettinger an extra penalty after the fact.
Penalties are not supposed to be reviewable. If you didn't give him a penalty after he squashed Toews and after seeing Toews bleeding on the ice, I don't see why you give it to him after making penalty decisions. Such double standards. -_- God.
Hear that sound? That's the sound of the Canucks pissing away another two points.
They started well enough. Scored 2 goals and was leading 2-0 by the start of the third period. But after scoring that second goal, they allowed Columbus to dominate the game and they just kept coming at Luongo and the Canucks just weren't doing enough to stop them.
And you know, it's funny, after getting beat by Colorado due to their inability to clear the puck out of their zone multiple times, they did not learn and everytime Columbus were in our zone, we had multiple chances to clear the puck... for some reason, we didn't and they got chances after chances and that's how they were able to score their first goal.
The second and third, however, were just really bad defensive mistakes. Willie Mitchell was under pressure 4 on 4, and had to quickly move the puck, and it unfortunately hit someone and went to Rick Nash for the breakaway. Their winning goal.. ugh. Bieksa. -_- I don't even know why he just let Chimera waltz in to the net like that.
ugh.
Yeah.
Don't even get me started on the Sedins in the OT. What was with that shift???! They kept missing the puck or passes, and they just gave Columbus every oppurtunity to walk back in our zone.
They were doing okay before the OT though, along with Markus Naslund. Man. They had so many chances to score on the powerplay, and they're just having bad puck luck. Two disallowed goals (the first one. wtf.) and lots of missed chances and good saves by Pascal Leclaire.
Taylor Pyatt had a really good game tonight. His work on the 1st Canuck goal was just amazing, not to mention he had a few opportunities to score on the PK before that as well.
Ugh. I was going to say more, but I don't even want to think about this game.

Brad Richards scored 5 points in his first game as a Star. It better be the last. X(
... Is the game that the Canucks always lose.
Okay, well, I don't have statistics to prove it, but I know we lost the first game after the deadline last year. :3
Anyway... I am torn between wanting to murder the Sedins or Joe Sakic or... yeah.
Joe Sakic was all in his clutchy glory, and Canucks fans better hope this will be the last, but knowing Joe, it most likely isn't.
The Sedins has been playing terrible of late, especially defensively. Their offensive game are still okay, they're getting their chances with Naslund, but they (especially Daniel Sedin) has been taken dumb, minor penalties in the defensive zone. It wouldn't even matter that much as long as they balance it out with scoring, but right now, it's not going for them eitherway.

As for the newest Canuck, Matt Pettinger has speeedz. Rinslet likes! He was definitely a threat on the penalty kill because of that speed and he looked good on that line with Kes and Burrows. What I would like to see though is Pettinger, Ryan Shannon and Mason Raymond on the same line so they can maybe try to create offense off the rush?
Speaking of Shannon and Raymond (along with Taylor Pyatt, Alexander Edler and Mike Weaver), that shift leading to Mason Raymond's goal was all sorts of amazing. Even though it was an even strength shift, they were set up as if it was a powerplay, and they totally controlled the puck until Raymond was able to tip Shannon's shot in the net. Man that was great to see. You almost wish the Canucks can do that sort of thing when they are on the powerplay :P.
Anyway, it's a very disappointing loss. One lucky bounce for the Canucks (though I don't think it's "lucky" at all since Alex Burrows really worked his bum off for that goal) leads to a different lucky bounce for the Avalanche.
Very disappointing ending. Should Woulda Coulda. If they cleared it out of the zone, with 15 seconds remaining, they could have won the game. If Vigneault put Linden in as the 2nd shooter instead of 3rd, we might have had the chance to tie the game in the shootout. If the refs freaking called _____________ penalty on _________ (insert Canuck player here) blah blah. Though I'm not really that mad about the bad officiating since the Canucks was just snakebit on the PP all night.
And yeah, the PP tonight. WTF. There was nothing happening. No shots off the point, and they just kept passing around the perimeter until an Avalanche player manages to knock them off the puck. GAH.
Good PK though. :B
Not too worried. We're playing Columbus on Friday, and hopefully we'll see a better game offensively from the Canucks.
