But Canucks fans suck more. This is their reactions after each loss:
After first 2 SO Losses against Edmonton: "ZOMG AV WHY ARE YOU USING RITCHIE! PUT NASLUND AND SEDIN IN ROAR!!!
After SO loss against Pittsburgh: "ZOMG AV WHY ARE YOU USING NASLUND AND THE SEDINS???!!111ONE THEY FUCKING BLOW! USE BURROWS ZOMG!!! AV SO STUPID!111ONETWOTHREE"
After SO loss against Edmonton last night: "ZOMG AV WHY ARE YOU USING BURROWS!!! PUT JAFFRAY AND RAYMOND IN! ZOMG SO STUPID AV! DO I HAVE TO THINK OF EVERYTHING??111 LULZZ BURROWS SUCKKKK"
My prediction after the next SO loss: "ZOMG AV WHY ARE YOU USING THE N00BS LIKE JAFFRAY AND RAYMOND! THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A PUCK IS! PUT WILLIE MITCHELL IN!!!"
:P
Though I have to admit, I did give up after Horcoff scored for the Oilers. I couldn't look at the Slingbox screen for a while, and had to go out of the room to calm myself.
When I went back in, I was lucky enough to catch Mattias Ohlund's tying goal, which also serves as the record breaking goal as he is now the Canucks All Time Goal Scorer for Defencemen. Congrats, Ohllie.
I stuck around for the shootout, and when I saw AV used Trevor Linden first, I knew he wasn't going to score and even predicted that Linden will not shoot the puck like he always does just to change his routine up. True enough, Linden went for the deke move and wasn't able to get the goal.
Kes finally got his first shootout goal this year, though. Good job Kes. :D
But yeah, Canucks definitely need to practice the shootouts. Brendan Morrison has already mentioned it a few times how they never practice it and I think it's time that they do. I understand why AV is hesitant in doing so because shooting at your own goaltender doesn't guarantee that the opposing goalie would be thinking the same thing, but the players at least need to practice some moves.
Anyway, yeah I said I'm on hiatus, but I caught the 3rd period of the game over slingbox and thought I should at least blog about CDC's reaction to the loss. lulz.
Okay. The blog is probably going on a mini-hiatus for the Christmas holidays.
I am going to California to have a mini reunion with a couple of my childhood friends and spend Christmas with the family.
Although we have our slingbox set up, it would be harder to catch Canucks games online when you're out most of the time, or 4 people (aka my dad, my mom, my brother and I) are all huddled in front of a small streaming video screen in front of a laptop monitor, it'd be hard to really get a huge feel so how the game is going. Imagining the 4 of us watching that small screen is pretty funny, though... haha
I will probably listen to the radio, but amidst dinner parties and stuff, I really don't have time to blog. :(
- For a grand total of one minute, the whole of Vancouver was enamoured by Sidney Crosby. After that, they all hate his guts.
- Roberto Luongo made this loss a bit easier to swallow after proving that Lui > Cindy. Pwning him twice on the shootout, and the team on the whole holding Sid and his line pointless... Small victory, but we'll take it for now.
- Canuck shooters need to stop dekeing the freaking goalies in the shootout. Do they not watch shootout game tapes??? Do they not see how Luongo was beaten on the shootouts that we lost??? AHH.
- Ryan Kesler is the man. And I love the type of goals that goes off the post and in. The PING is just MAGIC. That and he and his line shut down Crosby's line.
- PK was great this game.
- PP didn't click much. There was some promise, but they just can't convert.
- Sabby was great, and he must have been glad that he won this game against us.
- Canucks were really flat in the first 30 minutes of the game, but they bounced back in the last half and took it all the way to the shootout.
- Canucks got a taste of it's old medicine in Jarkko Ruutu. It still baffles me how Isbister ended up in the penalty when he was clearly the victim in that whole event.
If my post is weird, it's because I'm doing this half asleep.
- The first period was painful to watch. Thank God for Curtis Sanford, keeping the game 1-2 Preds by the end of the first period. After letting in that weak first goal, he was pretty much rock solid throughout the game, especially when the Canucks gave away so many quality scoring chances.
- Markus Naslund is still the Canucks Points Leader! Linden tried, but failed. That or NHL.com decided they like Nazzy too much, so they took away Linden's assist on Alex Burrows' goal. That and Naslund scored 2 assists, too. :) Trev tried again though, and got the empty-net goal.
- Taylor Pyatt scored a goal.. after 938423432 games of not having one... Okay kidding. He's been hot lately. His game. Not his mug, which is all facial-hairy. Kidding. Anyway. 4 points in the last 3 games. Tonight's goal was on the powerplay. A tip-in goal from a beautiful pass by Brendan Morrison. He's been shooting a lot more since being placed on Morrison's line, and it's probably because he's playing his natural wing in the right, which he said he was more comfortable playing in as he has more options when it comes to shooting and passing.
Time to do work! And sleep! I hate finals week!
Nazzy is now #1 for the Canucks All Time Scoring! ...At least until Trevor Linden scores a few and takes the lead back, then Nazzy takes it again.. and then rinse and repeat. :D
At the rate AV is benching Linden though, I won't be surprised if he would be unable to even tie the record.
Anyway, I just saw the highlights and it was a wicked assist by Naslund. I'm just glad it wasn't a garbage point or something.
Mattias Ohlund also tied the record for All Time Goals by a Defenseman!
In other news, Canucks win over the Blackhawks, 3-2. Both Brendan Morrison and Taylor Pyatt had 2 point nights (1 G 1 A for Mo, 2 A for Py). Glad to see Pyatt scoring, although I loved him in a defensive role and I actually preferred him in our shutdown line with Kes and Iz.
... Yes. I have a thing for defensive players. Which is why my favorite players list are usually dominated by defensemen.
The Canucks.com Forums had a bit of fun in the GDT turning several players into animals: Kesler and Edler = Moosler and Moodler aka MOOSE; Pyatt became a bunny. LOLz. A BUNNY. HOW FITTING. Too bad he'll always be a cute pink unicorn in my books. Then there's BLACKHAWKS and MIKE HUNT... aka say either of those 2 words really fast and you will see just how immature CDC can be. Yep.
Thanks, NHL for allowing Markus Naslund to celebrate this milestone with the fans by adding the assist half a day late.
Congratulations to Markus Naslund though. :D
"DENIED! YOU STINK MORE THAN RYAN GETZLAF!"
:P If you guys didn't know, that is actually QUATCHI, the hockey-playing Sasquatch, one of the mascots for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
I swear, I went to Zellers to purchase my Secret Santa present, and I saw it.. and I heard someone explaining to someone that it's a "hockey-playing Sasquatch" and I thought "OMG! WILLIE!!! I FOUND YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
So I bought it.
And he was expensive.
Okay. I have 23874234 assignments due in the next few hours so I'm making this short and sweet.
- Roberto Luongo goes for and got the Canucks Shut Out Record! 3 shut outs in a row, baby! :D Glad to have you back in shape, Lui!
- Markus Naslund was robbed of a point tonight. NHL officials are conspiring to never let him have the Canucks All Time Points Record.
- Ryan Kesler is getting under the skin of a lot of NHL players. Careful Kes, we don't want someone crosschecking your mug soon.
Annnnnddddddd a really great Markus Naslund article. Such a good read.
”We had a bad flight after our game in Edmonton (Oct. 20),” goaltender Curtis Sanford said of not arriving in Minnesota for a game the next night until 4 a.m. “This would have been a perfect time to use excuses like we were too tired, jet lag, whatever. But from the moment we stepped on the ice that night, Markus just willed us to a different level with his performance.
”He scored three goals, but he also pulled everyone along with him at a level higher than we had been playing, even though we were 5-0-2 in our previous seven games. You hear stories about great leaders ... Mark Messier ... Steve Yzerman ... Scott Stevens. For me, this was especially special because it was my turn to be in goal.” - Curtis Sanford
”How do you stop a guy like that?” defenseman Willie Mitchell said. “I remember trying to stop him when I was in Minnesota and Dallas. What makes him so good is that you cannot read and anticipate what he’s going to do. He’s so good with the puck, he doesn’t tip off whether he’s going to shoot or pass – and the way he gets off his shot so quickly that it catches defensemen and goaltenders off guard.” - Willie Mitchell
”There are players who are tough to stop like Marian Gaborik and Alexander Ovechkin because of their speed. And there are players who are tough to stop like Brendan Shanahan and Peter Forsberg because of their size and grit,” Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom said. “But the toughest players to cope with are ones like Markus and Joe Sakic because one-on-one they can do so many things, they can beat you one-on-one with their skating ability or puckhandling ability.
”You can’t stand your ground with players like that and take them on one-on-one. They can catch you flat-footed if you don’t stay alert.” - Nicklas Lidstrom
Nazzy, Nazzy, he's our man! If he can't do it no one can!
I was listening to the Post Game Show, and they were interviewing Ryan Kesler about his game tonight and he said that he had a lot of "built up anger" against the Anaheim Ducks because he was injured during that playoff series.
You know what? It's just so amazing watching Kes grow up on the ice, especially better that he's a Canuck. Alain Vigneault gave him a lot of icetime last season, with that an increased role, and he just ran away with it. The points did not come easy at first, he mostly focused on his defensive play, but when the points started coming during the Canucks' miracle run after Christmas, it abruptly ended with his hip surgery.
This season, Kes himself had huge goals for himself. Alain Vigneault elevated his role in the team again as part of the "shut-down" line with Taylor Pyatt and Brad Isbister. Not only does he help shut down the other team's top line, but he has been scoring as well.
But yes, Kes had another good game tonight, 2 goals, both on the powerplay, and the Ducks top line were held off the scoresheet.
I wasn't able to watch the first period, I was on my way home from school, but the second and period was just fun to watch.
The Canucks scored 4 goals, the first one and the game winner, was a nice wrist shot by Markus Naslund. That goal was just a beauty... hearing the "ping" of the puck hitting the post and in, then the goal horn is just music. I don't know what the heck Todd Bertuzzi was doing on that shift. Nazzy was just wide open and he didn't even try to check him. Thanks Bert! :D
I already mentioned that Kes scored 2 goals, and the other one was scored by Matt Cooke as he tip in Alexander Edler's point shot.
Other game notes:
- Henrik Sedin + Penalty Shot =/= Pretty. At least he was laughing about that missed chance on the bench.
- As I said, I did not get to watch the first period, but I'll take everyone's word for it, Luongo was amazing.
- Our 4th line? They rock. After getting the 4th goal, the Ducks sent out their 4th line which included George Parros, so AV obliged with our own 4th line. The only brouhaha that was caused was the one that left everyone wondering whether the Sedin Twins were on the ice because they were just puck cycling like crazy out there.
- Heehee. Ryan Getzlaf hitting Taylor Pyatt from behind. ;D Fatty would have none of that. HAHA I crapped my pants laughing when they showed Pyatt's swollen lip and Pierre McGuire (or was that Gord Miller?) commented that supermodels will kill for Pyatt's pouty lips right now. HAHA I was thinking "I think they'd kill for his electrifying eyes"
- Props to AV for putting the 3rd/4th line on the ice for the last few powerplays along with Willie Mitchell and Aaron Miller. Too bad Willie was too much of a puckhog and won't let Aaron Miller score his first goal as a Canuck. He almost injured Byron Ritchie as well.
- 2 more points until Markus Naslund takes the Canucks All Time Points leader.
- Chris Pronger sucks.
To whoever reads this, I am updating my blog links list, so if you have a blog that's not on there and you want me to link, or change link or remove....... just leave me a comment or email me at pyattisafatty at gmail.com
Hehe. I love Canucks.com for having player blogs. How awesome is it to have "Ryan Kesler Blog" or "Mason Raymond Blog" on your links list? HAHAHA.
