[edit] Apparently not CDC Vid Player.
Second .. well. Yeah. XD
He should get into more hockey fights, just need to make sure it won't ruin his face, or knock off any of his teeth. LOL!
PS: Notice how 2 of those fights came from hits Pyatt took which he didn't like. Well, the Vandermeer one was pretty bad cause it was a hit from behind and there should have been a penalty called for that, and no one did, but Staios' collision is pretty questionable. But anyway, the point is... PYATT STOP MAKING YOURSELF A TARGET FOR THESE HITS. You should be the one crushing these guys. Then crushing them again if they aren't pleased with YOUR hits.
LOL Perfect example of my love/hate relationship for this guy. XD Hahahaha.
Where do I begin? Horribly boring game, but good because we won. AND SCORED 6 GOALS WHILE WE ARE AT IT. wasn't it just last week that we can't even score more than 2 goals? Whatever you guys ate for Christmas, you guys better be stocking up on it for New Year's.
2nd goal was in an Oiler powerplay. Don't know what happened with the Oilers, but that was just a really bad too many men on the ice penalty. Anyway, Kevin Bieksa shot the rolling puck to the net, and Daniel Sedin tipped it home.
Afterwards, Stoll took a roughing penalty, and well, sadly for him the Canucks score on that powerplay, this time with Mattias Ohlund firing his own rocket of a shot. Really. That was just bad penalty kill by the Oilers. They had a chance to clear it, and if Pederson (?) didn't miss hitting the puck on that clearing attempt, Ohllie wouldn't have scored at all. Instead, he couldn't clear, Ohlund picked up the lost puck and BAM it's in.
3rd period brought 2 more goals from the Canucks, and both are pretty ones:
- One breakaway goal by Mattias Ohlund, coming out of the penalty box. Nice long pass by Brendan Morrison to get that puck to Ohlund. I love how the Canucks were the ones paying attention to Juicy's stick signaling that Ohlund is coming out of the box. :DDDDDDDD
- Second one...... my god. This is just awesome. Daniel leaving the puck to Henrik who shot it on net, and Daniel gloved the rebound that popped high in the air, dropped it on the crease, and pushed it in. HAHAHA IT WAS AWESOME.
Also things to note...
TAYLOR PYATT GOT INTO A HOCKEY FIGHT WITH STEVE STAIOS!!! I love when Pyatt gets angry. I kinda knew he was going to fight someone after Jason Smith hit him hard by the Oilers' bench, and he looked really angry from that hit. By the last minute or so of the first period, Staios "kneed" him, Pyatt got angrier, swiped at Staios legs and.. GAME ON. Pyatt totally owned him. Talk about getting manhandled. I don't think Staios even get to put a blemish on Pyatt's face, other than when he fell on the ice from the knee..... LOL Yes, Pyatt, now if you only put that much power on your checks and while protecting the puck, you'd be more effective. :x
Taylor Pyatt is really sexy when he's angry. Heehee
Also, Canucks picked up Jeff Cowan from waivers... And on his first (or 2nd) shift, he got into a fight with the same guy Kevin Bieksa owned last game.. the Jacques guy. XD;;; Well, at the first half of the fight, Jacques totally had the advantage, but Cowan was able to land hits on him by the end, so I'd say it's more or less a draw. No one dominated as much as Taylor Pyatt dominated >:D!
Sadly, Cowan got the worse of that fight as his eyes got swollen up. :(
But wow. 6 freaking goals again. NUMBER 1 IN THE NORTHWEST DIVISION AGAIN. Hahaha. Now.. Oilers, do us a favor and beat Calgary tomorrow so we stay in number 1. :D
Mwahahaha.
But yeah. As I said, it was a boring game to watch. :3 I feel bad for Oilers fans. The only reason it was exciting for us Canucks fans was cause we scored 6 goals.
Sorry Chloe and jordi!!! Any other day, I'd be cheering for the Oil as well, but when against the Canucks......
YAY! CANADA WINS OVER GERMANY! We are in the semifinals!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!
Go Canada Go!
Let's start with the negatives:
- Blew two 2-goal leads.
- Took too many penalties.
- Luongo needs more work on his 5-hole. Serious.
- Need to learn how to clear the puck.
- Need to learn how to clear players out of our crease.
As for the good stuff. :D
6 goals in one game! 1 from the powerplay, 4 at even strength, and the most amazing of all, 1 SHORT HANDED.
Yes, you heard that right, WE FINALLY HAVE A SHORT HANDED GOAL!!! I think that was the only blemish on our almost perfect penalty kill at home (93%? 95%? pk%). Just a good odd-man rush for the Canucks. Matt Cooke grabbing the loose puck, Brendan Morrison and Willie Mitchell, who almost hesitated on joining the rush for a 3-on-2, were the trailers, Cooke passed to Mitchell, who passed it to Mo for the tip in and regain the 2-goal lead at 4-2.
Boy did they look SO HAPPY celebrating that goal. AND BOY WAS I HAPPY.
Before that, Matt Cooke also scored a weak goal on Kiprusoff. After the Flames tied the game at 2-2, Canucks' first shot of the period was a weak backhand by Cooke which..... I don't know. Kipper should have totally saved that goal since it's a weak shot.. and I don't know. Maybe he was out of position? I don't think it was tipped in or deflected or anything.
The 3rd period was practically all Flames. The Canucks were caught trying to just keep the lead, and next thing you know, Flames lead the game 5-4 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd period. The Canucks proved that they are very resilient though, as they came back to tie the game a minutes after Calgary scored.
Markus Naslund did a good job of getting the puck to the net, while Kiprusoff lost the rebound and Ryan Kesler banked it in to make the game 5-5, and took it to overtime.
At this point, you'd be amazed at the Northwest Division standings: all teams had 38 points, therefore were all tied in the same position barring the number of games played. So whoever won this game would obviously be #1 in the northwest division and #3 in the western conference.
Anyway, so going into overtime, the Canucks had a 6-0-1 record. We came out of it with a 7-0-1 overtime record.
It was a weird shot by Sami Salo as it got deflected off 2 Calgary players and probably fooled Kipper which is why he wasn't able to make the save, but still :D It gave the Canucks the much-needed victory.
Other goals of note... The twins each had a goal in the first period. The first goal was from Daniel Sedin, who banged in the rebound from Kevin Bieksa's shot. The 2nd one came from a 2-on-1 breakaway, with Daniel passing the puck to his twin, Henrik Sedin, who easily tipped the puck in Calgary's open net.
Wasn't that the exact same goal they scored on Kiprusoff last time the Flames were at GM Place? Oh well, still a pretty goal. :D
By the way, Taylor Pyatt had an assist on the Henrik goal, so in both even strength goals the Sedin's has scored in the Calgary home-at-home series, Pyatt assisted. Vigneault? Are you listening? Keep Pyatt with the Twins, please.
As for the Northwest Division leader? Right now it's the Canucks, but they have also played more games than any other team in this division and they're only leading the division by a point, so it can change in the next few days.
It's been so long since the Canucks has scored this many goals. Heck, both Calgary and Vancouver, especially Vancouver, are in the bottom half of the "Goals for" stats, with both teams just averaging around 2 goals a game. This is a big blow out for both as 11 goals were scored in the whole game.
Anyway, really fun game to watch. I want more games like these... minus the "blowing off 2 goal leads" bit.
*yawn* So sleepy.
Team Canada won over Team USA, 6-3
Montreal Canadiens over Washington Capitals, 4-1
Vancouver Canucks over Calgary Flames, 6-5 (more on this later)
:) What a good day.
The first period was kind of an even game for both teams, but I think Calgary had the better chances. They were unlucky though, even throughout the game, as they hit the post a few times everytime they were able to beat Luongo. A taste of what the Canucks always go through, eh? Posts, crossbars... yes, I know it leaves a nasty aftertaste, and we've had that sour puck luck for a long time that I can't help but laugh a little now that a team other than us has been on the bad end of puck luck this game.
In the second period, the Canucks really came alive. A powerplay early in the period allowed us to take a 1-0 lead. Kevin Bieksa shot a puck to the net and Trevor Linden was there to put in the rebound into a wide open net as Mikka Kiprusoff was down on the ice (I think...). Afterwards, it seemed like the Canucks has made it 2-0 when Lukas Krajicek shot the puck from the point, and Alex Burrows tipped it in the net, and it was ruled "no goal" cause of the apparent "high stick tip in".
Seriously.
I feel terrible for Alex Burrows. This kid can't buy a goal. Maybe it's cause his salary is so small he can't pay the refs to give him a goal? Either that or maybe he did something bad to the head of the Referee association or something and he ordered all the refs to disallow all his goals. LOL. Really feel bad for him. He was so angry that he had another one disallowed.
Anyway, Daniel Sedin remedied that no goal by scoring one of his own off the rush. He tried passing the puck to Jan Bulis, but Langkow chopped the puck back to Daniel Sedin instead, and he quickly shot it to beat Kiprusoff.
In the 3rd period, I think the Canucks was still dominating the game. They did get 3 straight penalties in the 3rd with a 2-0 lead, one of which lead to a 5-on-3 for around a minute. Luongo was great in making those saves off Iginla and Phaneuf's hard shots.
The Canucks also scored on this period. Taylor Pyatt played the puck to Henrik Sedin who made a quick pass, I heard it's a no look pass, to his twin brother and Daniel potted his 2nd of the game giving the Canucks a 3-0 lead.
I swear, I love the Sedin-Sedin-Pyatt line. I wish Alain Vigneault would stop juggling with that line and stick the Pyatt and the Sedins with someone else, because you know.. it worked at the beginning of the season, and if we just let them regain the chemistry they had and develop it some more, maybe we can get this line working. I know that AV wants more scoring and that's why he separated that line in the first place, but go with what works. If not Pyatt, I say go with Bulis and the Sedins.
But really. The Sedins just really need their pylon back :P. They did say their winger of choice was Taylor Pyatt, so I wish Vigneault would just listen to them. o_O;;;
Anyway back to the game. The Canucks coasted a bit at the end of the 3rd period, beginning to take the gas off the pedal and just protect the lead. And cause of this coasting, Linden got caught with some freak penalty (holding I think), and Calgary had a powerplay with a minute or something left in the period. Moss then proceeded to break Luongo's shutout bid when his shot deflected off someone (I'm thinking Canuck player) and in.
Ah well, a win's a win.
Next game is game 2 of the this back-to-back, home-at-home series against Calgary Flames, so we're seeing them again tomorrow (or well, today already), this time at our home ice in Vancouver's GM Place.
Both teams will probably be tired from the travels today, but I just want the Canucks to show up and play a game like tonight's game again, if not better.
Oh yeah. Just when I thought I could watch all 3 hockey games tomorrow, I just found out I was working sooooo I'll be missing:
Team USA vs Team Canada (I'll watch the replay the day after or at midnight)
Washington Capitals vs Montreal Canadiens
=_= I'm so sad.
[EDIT] OH YEAH! We also broke Calgary's 10-game home winning streak. :D
LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUC
YEAH! Player of the game for Canada with his 1 goal and just great defensive play.
Why was it that I felt more comfortable when Letang-Bourdon defensive pair was on the ice compared to like Parent-Staal or Russell-Franson? Though all defensemen were good, my heart just felt like it was jumping out everytime the others were on the ice. XDDD;;;
Kristopher Letang set-up both powerplay goals by Canada. One was from a broken powerplay in the first period where he just passed the puck to Bourdon and he one-timed it in. The second one was in second period where Cogliano passed to Letang, and he skated closer to the Swedish box, shot it and Marchand was there for the rebound.
Overall play of Canada was....... well they kind of stepped back in the last half of the game and Sweden just took it to them. They were also, surprisingly, less physical than the Swedes. Sweden really outchances and out shot Canada, plus they got quality chances when our defense just slacked... Thank God for Carey Price and saving our asses.
Hmm what else... There was this funny time when the commentator accidentally called Tommy Pyatt "Taylor Pyatt" XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD But Tom Pyatt ......... well I don't know if I should compare him to his brother, since I've only really watched him in World Juniors, but form this game, I think he's a good skater and puck handler. Fast, too. XD
But anyway. :D Next game is against Team USA tomorrow~ Team USA lost to Germany this morning in overtime, so they'd be really pumped next game. I just want us to win, and hopefully keep the shutout streak while we're at it. :B But as Price said, wins are much more important to him right now than keeping that shutout streak alive.
But man.. full day of hockey action on TSN tomorrow:
Team USA vs Team Canada
Montreal Canadiens vs Washington Capitals
Calgary Flames vs Vancouver Canucks
:P I don't think anyone can move me from the couch tomorrow. HAHAHA
Go Canada Go!
Just when you thought the Canucks have learned their lesson on taking early penalties in the game against Boston, they didn't. Morrison's hooking penalty halfway through the 1st period gave the Blue Jackets a 2-0 lead. And it wasn't only the hooking calls. It's the TOO MANY MEN penalty. There were 3 in the game. I understand 1, but 3??? But still. 5 penalties in the first period alone. We weren't exactly helping ourselves.
Kevin Bieksa's one-timer from Naslund's beautiful pass beat Norenna (who was playing in place of Leclaire after he got injured).
I see a bit of an improvement on our powerplay. I like how Taylor Pyatt is using his size more now when standing in front of the goalie. He and Adam Foote had a good battle in front of the net as Foote was just trying to push Pyatt away, but can barely push him. I think Vigneault should keep that powerplay line together. I'm sure after a few more shifts, Pyatt would get used to his position in front of the net and Markus Naslund or whoever's at the point (usually Salo with Morrison or Krajicek) can take advantage of his positioning more.
The only problem with the Sedin-Sedin-Linden powerplay unit is the passing really. Way too many passing, and I wish they'd just shoot. They ate up a full 2 minutes of powerplay in the 2nd period just passing. Okay they had 2 shots, but still. If they shot more...........
Overall, the line combinations this game were all good. Just no finish. I mean c'mon. Chouinard had an open net to shoot at and he shot it too high into the netting. OPEN NET. With all these scoring problems, I'm sure they are just getting frustrated and are losing their patience with the puck. Especially Naslund. They don't try to settle the puck and just... shoot smartly. When they get the puck they immediately think SHOOT or pass blindly.. and lost chance.
I think this is what happened in the last minute of the 3rd period. After closing in the lead at 3-2, they had another chance to tie the game and..... they can't roof the puck. Heck, Markus Naslund couldn't roof the puck on 2 chances. This is something he used to be able to do effortlessly.
Well anyway. I was going to say something else about the Canucks' play of late.. o_o but I forgot...... it's at the tip of my fingers. WTF. x_x;;;
Well anyway. I just hope they STOP getting early penalties and that I hope Naslund and all of the Canucks get a nice pair of scoring hands for Christmas.
Anyway, it seemed like it's back to the same old fairy tale for the Canucks, at least for this game. Outwork the other team for most of the game and still lose. Just when we thought the scoring woes of the team are over, the epidemic has again invaded Vancouver's lineup.
I don't know how good Boston was on the first period, but all I know is that they were able to capitalize on the powerplays we had to take the lead 2-0. Apparently, the 5-on-3 late on the 1st period was a questionable penalty for the Canucks, I haven't seen the replays for that yet, but I guess that call on Bulis for hooking, and Linden for a game misconduct (after trying to argue the penalty for Bulis) was really bad that Vigneault was angry at the refs, subtly taking shots at them on the post-game interview.
Watch it AV. Don't want the league fining you and Linden $$$$$$$$ for hurting the poor refs feelings. :D
Apparently, we also had "2 goals" throughout the game (which would have tied it), but both were disallowed. I only saw the Naslund one at the last second of the game, but it was waived off cause Bruins had a penalty, etc and they touched the puck, etc. I think they were arguing that in the rules it must be clear that the penalized team has control of the puck when they touched it for the ref to blow the whistle. *shrugs*
I can't even count anymore how many goals has been waived off against the Canucks. :P It's almost expected, especially when it's Alex Burrows who's scoring. If he starts celebrating a goal, I just know it's going to be waved off. HAHA.
Yes. I find it hilarious. I think I learnt how to stop complaining.
But we shouldn't depend on the refs to decide a game for us. We had a lot of chances. We didn't bury any of it.
I feel bad for Sabourin. He actually played well tonight, just those 2 powerplays murdered us. I want him to get a win soon. Then again, Boston didn't give him any work in the 3rd period anyway, so he had it easy... 0 shots in the 3rd period. Canucks had like 2837482374823 shots. None went in the net.
Next game is against Columbus Blue Jackets. Hot team lately, but another must win.
