The other Johnson got signed
Erik Johnson, first overall draft pick from the 2006 draft, has been signed to an entry-level contract by the St. Louis Blues. (source TSN) I'm guessing 3-year contract, max rookie deal.. $800,000-ish + tons of bonuses.
Have I mentioned how much I love the American Johnsons? I jumped on their bandwagon after seeing a couple of World Junior Hockey Championship games, and since my favorite type of hockey players are defensemen, it was easy to like them. Not only were they good defensively, they showed some offensive flair as well.
Anyway. Watching St. Louis Blues games against the Vancouver Canucks will be a bit more interesting now. On an interview on ESPN, Erik Johnson mentioned that his favorite team growing up was Vancouver Canucks, and how he was cheering for them to win against the Rangers in that Stanley Cup Final (yes, yes you got me. This is why I like him in the first place :P), but now he apparently doesn't cheer for anything Canadian. Shades of WJHC, U-18, U-17, etc rivalries, perhaps?
*looks hopefully at Edler and Bourdon*
In other news, the Vancouver Police Department is banning any sort of celebration or non-celebration at anytime during the playoffs. That is such BS. This is why Vancouver is known as a boring city. Your freaking city is alive and pumping in the playoffs, people just want to celebrate the Canucks' wins and people get tickets for honking. HONKING AT FREAKING 8-9 PM. Who the fuck sleeps at 8-9 PM? In Downtown Vancouver no less? It's not like they're doing it in front of a retirement home.
Give me a break.
I can understand if people gets arrested for creating mischievous acts, like vandalism or something, but just all around celebration? C'mon. You guys are just asking for more trouble.

My wife is pregnant and she sleeps at 9. We live and work downtown.
I don't mind the honking, especially if it's on a weekend, but the 'visitors' from the suburbs come into my neighboor hood streets (I live on Seymour) and make a mess of my city with their piss and garbage, yelling and screaming, then drive home at 3:00am to their pretty little suburbeon home.
Personally, I'd prefer they'd just stay out their and not bother. I'm not a bore, just tired of the general lack of respect shown. The reality is that it's a relative few % that cause the majority of the problems, but all have to pay for their actions.
Sorry, I got a bit carried away with my rant there. What they say on the news about pulling people over for honking is a bit too much, but yeah if they're trashing the city, I can understand that. I guess it's always that small percentage that ruins the fun for everyone.
