Canucks gone Wild, 3-2
It was a pretty disappointing loss for Vancouver tonight against Minnesota Wild. After a good first period in which they scored 2 (lucky) goals, they took their foot off the pedal and handed over the keys to Minnesota Wild to control the game.
No one really dominated the play for the Canucks, especially after the first period. The Sedin-Sedin-Pyatt line was rendered useless as they were stuck in the defensive zone most of the time, and really.. same can be said for most lines. During the rare times they were able to gain the offensive zone, the chances quickly disappears as they lose control of the puck very quickly and they are back on the defensive again.
I guess they just didn't have any jump tonight as this game didn't have as much emotion compared to the previous 2 games against the Wild.
- Our powerplay stunk. Stunk worse than food that's gone bad. They can't even gain entry into the offensive zone, and when they try to chip the puck in, they can't retrieve it. The point shots aren't going through, most of them are blocked or miss the net entirely.
- This is the type of game where the Canucks really miss Willie Mitchell. I'm not saying Mattias Ohlund or Kevin Bieksa did a poor job on defense, they were wonderful, but if Willie was able to play tonight, not only would he have absolutely shut down the Wild in those crucial minutes, he would have also allowed Ohlund and Bieksa to freely jump up into the play to create offensive zone chances. Surprisingly, Krajicek was the defenceman who pinched in the most and was mostly effective in the offensive zone.
- I find it hilarious that Marian Gaborik was going after Kevin Bieksa the whole night. Every chance he got, it seemed like he was more focused on hitting Bieksa than actually playing the puck. Maybe he's still bitter from that huge hit Bieksa laid out on him back in Minnesota on their Valentine's Day tilt?
- One good thing is that we didn't take a lot of penalties this game, and we also killed off the penalties that we did take. The bad thing is that we took ourselves out of a powerplay 2 times. ...Not that it matters anyway since our PP wasn't working.
Poor Luongo. When will he reach that 40 win mark? :D
